Nacida en la ciudad fronteriza de Matamoros y tras haber transcurrido toda su vida ahí, Samantha Isabel se mudaría a Estados Unidos para obtener su Licenciatura y posteriormente su Maestría en Estudios Interdisciplinarios.
Esa corta distancia de su hogar la enfrentarían a la estigmatización y los roles que se esperaban que ella cumpliera. Fue ahí donde no quedo más que afrontar la vulnerabilidad de la vida como migrante y como mujer. Estas cuestiones se verían reflejadas en su obra como intento de entablar un dialogo que inicia cuestionando la construcción social de la realidad.
Su fascinación por la creación social de significados y su búsqueda de materiales que forman parte del mensaje la llevo a utilizar un ingrediente con mucha presencia en la cocina mexicana para explorar la reciente retórica sobre la inmigración, economía, y temáticas raciales. La fragilidad del chile guajillo, su excéntrico color, y cautivador aroma funge como un elemento ideal para representar las complejidades de la inmigración.

SAMANTHA ISABEL
Born and raised in Matamoros, at the Mexican border with the United States, she will move few yards from home to Brownsville, Texas to pursue her bachelor’s and currently a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary studies. Those few yards from home would make her aware of the stigmatization and the roles she was expected to play as a woman and the vulnerability of the life as an immigrant and the role they play in the social construction of reality.
Seeking materials that deliver a message and following a fascination about the creation of meaning, Samantha Isabel uses a common ingredient in the Mexican cuisine to explore the recent rhetoric about immigration, race, and economics. The fragility of the dried guajillo chili and its overpower color and aroma made guajillo pepper the ideal element to explore the complexities of immigration.
